The segment of US 89 through central Arizona that wasn't multiplexed with US 60 became AZ 89.

The Yarnell hill, near Yarnell. The upper cut was the original, very narrow route. It was converted to one lane one way downhill. A second uphill lane was built below it.

The old Little Hell Canyon bridge, with the Santa Fe Peavine line behind it. The current crossing just uses fill and a culvert. (near Drake)
