The Desert Road is SH 1 south of Lake Taupo. This relatively dry area gives
it the name.
Curve signs, showing the black & white chevron advisory speed sign on the outside
of the curve.
The "slippery" sign is considerably more violent than the US version.
The US also tends to use the swerving car symbol only for wet conditions.
An "ICY" word sign would be more likely for this in the US.
A lot of the curve signs have the arrow bent over like this.
Train crossings use this sign, along with a "Railway Crossing"
flattened crossbuck.
This is an electrified line so a sign gives a warning for the overhead
catenary.
